Is there such a thing as “accent” in sign languages? Can people tell if someone is from the South, NY, etc by looking at how they use the sign language?

There are definitely different sign languages in use in different countries and they’re not necessarily mutually intelligible.

Wikipedia also refers to something closer to regional accent:

Variations within a ‘national’ sign language can usually be correlated to the geographic location of (residential) schools for the deaf.

Hmmm…that’s really interesting. I’d love to learn a sign language and ‘see’ the regional accent.
