I cracked my rib today.

Sometimes, or even often, politics makes people become so serious about ridiculous stuff. Some Japanese parliament member aplogized in public for his recent statement on BSE and bird flu. When somebody says “Mou kekkou”, it means no more/I no longer want it. Well, this guy said “Cows, Chickens..mou kekkou!” Now, Mou also is the onomatopoeia for cows just like moo in English. So, this silly politician was making a middleage man’s not that funny joke on this cow/chicken issue. (Though, I must say that made me smile a bit..)

It evidently offended many individuals and I could see why but at the same time, the fact that the Diet took time for him to apologize for his joke makes me sigh. Sure, some jokes are unacceptably bad but I don’t think this one was worth even paying attention to. There are many many more important things they should be doing and in my mind, this sort of things belongs to the same category as Yaji (hooting), which is a popular thing to do in the Japanese Diet.
