WA: Test ride for the new touring bicycles: Seattle to Anacortes, WA via Interurban and Centennial trails.

~96 miles/3172ft climb.

After building our touring bikes at the Wright Brothers Cycle in late June, we test-rode them from Seattle to Anacortes via Interurban and Centennial trails.

Our bikes did fine. I was out of shape, so it was a slow ride. We left at 7AM and arrived in Anacortes at 4:30PM. We brought trail mix, prunes, and candies and they were more than enough to keep us going. We took short breaks (5-15 minutes) 5-6 times during the ride.

The ride was not too hilly. We decided to take Reservation Road towards the end and that was quite hilly but with our new wall-climbing gears, it was fine. We didn’t realize that Interurban is not exactly in one piece and we had to get off and back on the trail multiple times. Centennial is more complete. But either way, the fact that I can do more than half of my trip to Anacortes on trails is amazing.

When I take Centennial, I always make a stop at a grocery store run by a Japanese women by Lake McMurray. It’s got an ancient gas stand that still works and a little living room with a cat, a stove, and lots of Japanese books.

An old man on a tractor drove up and filled the tank while we were there. The gas stand actually works!

After filling our stomachs with deliiiiiicious food at A’Town Bistro, we took a ferry to Guemes and biked another 4-5 miles to Guemes Island Resort. It felt hilly after a long day of biking + a big meal but there are very few cars and the resort place was scenic and fun.
