WA: Tulips and Frogger biking in Mt. Vernon – Everett, WA

~50miles/~1400ft climb.

We went on a bike ride from Mt. Vernon to Everett, WA in early April. We took Amtrak from Seattle to Mt. Vernon, biked to the tulip festival, and biked back to Everett via Centennial Trail. It was mostly great, except for biking from Marysville into Everett. That part requires you to cross the highway twice as the pedestrian paths on the four bridges (no other way to cross the rivers near there) are not all on the right side. I rarely feel like a frogger frog when I’m biking but this was one of those rare moments. Next time, I’ll skip this part and take the commuter bus between these two cities – it has a bike rack for two.

Mt Vernon to Everett

We were on our single-speed since we still didn’t have bikes with gear options after our road bikes got stolen last year and it was mostly ok. There were two places in Mt. Vernon that were too steep to bike up, so we walked. In general, this is a good introductory route for anyone who wants to start biking long-distance as it’s mostly on a paved trail or bike lanes or quiet streets. Take a bus after getting to Marysville.

We had good Hawaiian food and went to a banya in Everett before taking a Sound Transit Express bus back to the U district.
